Their association with Youngevity began as a result of a health issue that afflicted their daughter, Yelba. At age three she began suffering from chronic urinary tract infections. Doctors tried antibiotic after antibiotic, and eventually wanted to operate. Robert and Claudia were disillusioned with her treatment and decided to start searching online for a better solution. Thankfully, they found out about Dr. Joel Wallach and Youngevity. Not only did the products help solve their daughter’s health issues, but the business model reignited their passion to own their own business.
Richard grew up “all over the west side of Oregon.” In the past he worked as an athletic trainer, chef and restaurant manager, a small business owner (with Steve Wallach), and yes, even a used car salesman. He and his wife, Roxanna, have known Dr. Wallach and Steve and Michelle Wallach for 30 years, and he is proud to have helped them get the company going.
“When I started my network marketing business, I quit my full time job, so there was no Plan B. I was NOT going to fail!"
Lisa had built a team with Beyond Organic before becoming a part of Youngevity. When she saw an interview with Dr. Wallach, she got so excited that started calling as many of her distributors as possible.
“I knew this was going to be BIG,” she says. “Sometimes people don’t see what you see, initially, and that can be the challenging part. Many times they come back later and jump on with us, and they are very excited. I love when that happens!”
“I became part of the company when Beyond Organic joined the Youngevity family of brands,” says Rebecca. “I came in with lips pouted and arms crossed… but I came out hands raised and dancing with excitement asking, “Youngevity, where have you been all my career!!??”
The Holcombes grew up in West Michigan, where Bani worked as a Yamaha sales rep and Rachael owns a hair salon. They got involved in Youngevity when they started using Rebound FX. As active people, they “fell in love” with the product and felt like it was superior to anything else in the sports drink category.
Catalina came to the United States from El Salvador 18 years ago. In the beginning, she had 3 jobs—waitress, bank teller, and janitor. She was working very hard and sleeping just a few hours a day. She felt like the “walking dead,” and never seemed to have enough time to spend with her husband and two children. Her goal of achieving the American Dream had turned into a nightmare.
One day, she stood in front of a mirror and took a good look at herself. She realized that she was not living the life she had envisioned, and she felt very uncomfortable, not because her jobs were bad, but because she knew she could do better. There was more for her to achieve.
Lourdes is from Aguascalientes, Mexico. She was working in a coffee shop when Catalina Villatoro invited her to try the 90 For Life products and work on detoxifying her liver. When she had such fantastic results from her detoxification, dropping four dress sizes and losing 12 pounds, people began to ask what she was doing. When she told them about the products and the business, they, too, wanted to talk to Catalina about how they could get involved. Lourdes invited 3 people to get started, and on the same day, they each invited 3 people, so that she qualified as an SEMD right away!

Question: Looking back, what were some of the toughest challenges you and Steve faced when you were building Youngevity?
Answer: I am sure we had the same tough challenges any company faces when they first start out. Some of our challenges included finding a location big enough to fit our operation, working with our manufacturers to keep up with our growth, and finding qualified employees to keep up with our sales and shipping needs. As I think about it, the biggest task was finding the technology to keep up with our growth.
In a world overflowing with messages of all kinds (marketing, social, entertainment, political, religious, etc.), how do you get someone to listen to your message? And how do you attract their attention without them even realizing you are doing it?
One way to do it is piquing—an effective prospecting strategy I learned many years ago. I continue to use it today because it simply works, and it doesn’t cause people to cross to the other side of the street when they see you coming. It’s actually a lot like fishing.
